Ugh. I am such a fricking dork.

So, my day of retail therapy did not proceed as planned. I went to the Mall. I went in with minimal expectations. I had a goal of picking up some Lancome and looking for shoes, purse, clothes. Pretty simple, right? Oh mais non! The mall itself is decent looking. Its really bright and clean inside. The stores, however are circa 1999 and half the size - or less - of stores in the Atlanta malls. They had an Express, which usually can be counted on for trendy clothes that pass for cool. It was the old concept Express though. The kind with all the french stuff and weird decor. I totally felt like I was back in high school. Le Sigh.

Anyway, I sought solace at Macy's and scored the Lancome I needed, and the counter chick was breath takingly gorgeous and extremely helpful and friendly. I stopped by the Mac counter, Christian Dior and Chanel. I didn't really see anything I wanted. Ugh. I ventured to Victoria's Secret.

I can't even go into the sad state of affairs that were to be witnessed at the venerable VS. They had nothing, just racks of boring blah-ness. It became obvious very quickly that the retail establishments in Reno are getting shafted by corporate. Another deduction emerged as I perused what was to be my shop-a-holic heaven... I will be doing a lot of shopping online.

Just so busy. Busy, busy... all around... Reno? I haven't done a proper update in a while. I have this issue with an aesthetic text ratio. It has to not only say the right thing, but look right as well. A lot of people have asked about quoting my mini-rant on hollywood, and a few other text pieces on the site. Feel free, just drop a link back to me, please. Pictures are not allowed to be stolen, however.

I have a lot of things to say, just not much time to say them. I met up with the kids last night. I like them all, they make me laugh. Amber does DDR drunk. The fact that people I know actually do [play?] DDR is disturbing, the fact that they do it well, also disturbing, but the fact they do it well while drunk... oh my.

I'm going in for a bit of the retail therapy in a moment. I'll return and tell you how it went. I've already done a bit of online therapy. But really, you're never cured if this is your method of self-medication. You know, give me a break. I don't do anything bad, I live the life of a fricking saint. Its true!

Well, I can't hold my tongue any longer. I'm sorry.

I'm watching the Oscars on television. They always give awards to huge blockbuster movies that I've never seen. The stars parade around in a collective millions of dollars worth of clothes and jewelry. They take their honors and use the time to make political statements.

Why do these people think they are qualified to make assessments about the state of our country when their primary focus in life is singing and acting? Most of them do not even have college educations, much less hold high level degrees from respected schools in policy studies, international affairs or political science. Cher dropped out of high school in 9th grade, Martin Sheen couldn't pass the entrance exam into the University of Dayton. They're extremely vocal anti-Bush haters.

Its so easy to condem something that you're so far removed from. They have huge mansions and personal body guards and watch television in between shooting takes for their movie which will pay them $20 million.

Dear Hollywood,

You are far less qualified to make statements of opinion about our current situation than even I am. Please shut the fuck up and go back to dressing like whores, making billions of dollars and being uneducated hypocrites. If you feel that you ARE in fact qualified, and even, MORE qualified than our elected leaders to make foreign policy decisions, then I urge you to get a staff and start a campaign for next year's elections. Perhaps you can follow in the footsteps of one of your own, the venerable Ronald Reagan. He was a hollywood star and look at all the great things HE did for us.

Regards,

Sherrod

My SF trip was super fun and totally a short little drive. Yea! I didn't take many pictures, but I will post them soon. I went to the dog park with Justin and Nixon and went to a party where I saw Polymorfeth and met his friend Greg whom I totally <3 to the max.

Now, pay attention:

GirlVinyl: I need a favor
Chicago: anything
GirlVinyl: Heh.
GirlVinyl: Wow.
GirlVinyl: good answer.
GirlVinyl: come fix my computer
Chicago: Do you want to talk about why the openbsd diva thinks she needs a midwestern boy to help fix her computer?
GirlVinyl: yes

Listen up gentlemen...
Please witness how he totally makes me swoon. This is good technique. Its made even better by the fact that he has no clue how weak it makes me. Sigh. It was foolish of me to even give the insinuation of competition - there is none.

Mmmmm, soda!

Re: work.
I love it. The people I work with are awesome geniuses. But they are not just genius - they're funny too! Its great, and I'm quite happy. Erin wanted me to write about him, check out his website. Its funny. Anyway, the kids at work are totally awesome and I heart them with all my <3++ to the max.

Re:reno
I went on a phone stroll around the grounds yesterday with Dr. Lecter. This place is huge and has all kinds of strange little ponds and fountains randomly placed throughout. I really do love it. Its so beautiful. I need to get in the pool. I also saw the koi pond. I wonder if Suede would jump in there and try to catch fish if she lived here.

Re: clubbing
I had planned to go out tonight, but I just couldn't make it. I went to RLUG after work, which conveniently holds its meetings in the conference room a mere 15 feet from my desk. Sam gave a stirring overview of the OSI model! HA! He makes me laugh. He also tricks me a lot.

Re: SF
I don't feel so bad about not going out because I'm going to go to San Francisco this weekend and visiting hep and maybe pollymorfeth! I want to see Chris too, maybe I can convince him to come save me again. I fear getting in a car accident. I hope my Atlanta guerilla driving tactics can help me out on the Earthquake-and-hippie-ridden terrain.

Being me is awesome. My life rules. Yea!
Monday 10.03.2003 6:34 PM

Well, the Reno 2600 kids are supremely fabulous! I love them. One of the guys from work was at the 2600 thing - so, about work, I love it! The people I work with are awesome! Yea! I'm super lucky. God, if only Atlanta and the se2600 could get this kind of connection going, it would be a lot more productive and a lot less hostile. The 404 group suffers from over aggression and severe egomania. I believe it comes from being made fun of mercilessly in highschool. Heh. Its true.

One of the guys from 2600 emailed me about the goth night here in Reno. It looks decent. I'll go next week. I'm dying for an 80s night. I need to rock so bad, its killing me. Is that too much too ask? God, just give me a little Morrissey and some Book of Love, a bit of Durran Durran and I'll be just fine, promise. Speaking of goth crap, I got my plane tickets and registered for Convergence9 today. I've got Heather and Andrew in the room with me at the Flamingo. Our 4th roommate is still up in the air. I'm excited about seeing them and creating Havoc in LV.

I'm playing with friendster. I'm not completely sure how I feel about it yet. We'll see. I'm sort of missing home and my friends. Its a Saturday night and I'm in my huge, gorgeous apartment all alone. Sigh. I really miss my doggie! My mom is keeping her in Atlanta, and giving me several times daily reports by email and phone on how the little mongrel is doing. Reno is awesome, so far. The weather is amazing. Its always bright and sunny. Beautiful blue skies and puffy white clouds... plus those big huge mountains everywhere you look. Crazy. I talk to people everywhere I go, if I get the chance, just to see what the locals say about things. I met this big huge Great Pyrenees named Napoleon at the 2600 meeting. He was so lovely and kept pushing into me with the side of his body so I'd pet him. His owners were really nice and told me a lot about Tahoe and recommended some places I should go.

I got mentioned on Instapundit which rocks! From there I found the link to Ken Layne's site. He has also recently moved to the Biggest Little City. His site is hilarious and is a much better read for Reno funny haha time than mine is.

Mmmm, the things I do for love.
Saturday 08.03.2003 11:42 PM

Reno 26oo meeting tomorrow. Its at some mall, in the food court. I don't know what time. I guess I will just go there after work. My first social event. Heh. I AM SO LAME!

Speaking of lame... if you search google for "I hate Theo" and OpenBSD - my site is the only one that comes up.
Thursday 06.03.2003 7:22 PM

My dad left at 5:00 this morning. That means I'm in a city where I know no one but the people I work with, and my closest friend is like a 4 hour drive away. Remember, flights arriving daily. Scary. However, we all know my mantra "Everybody loves a mystery."

I hate men. I'm going to SF next weekend.
Wednesday 05.03.2003 6:09 PM

Remember the poison taster from Ninja Scroll? That's how I feel right now.
Tuesday 04.03.2003 10:45 PM

Went and saw LOTR: Two Towers today. I hadn't seen it yet, I'm not so into the LOTR. The films are ok, but I've never read the books or anything. I would like to mention however that Legolas is one serious bow-weilding elven. Day-um! I love it when he kills those orc things. Sigh. Hotness to the Nth.

Speaking of hotness - Reno keeps impressing me. I don't even want to leave the apartment unless I'm all dressed up because there will invariably be an opportunity for me to hit on the veritable myriad of unfunf local hotness.

I used to lament my singleness and have to remember all the things I didn't have to compromise. Like, I can have pulp-free orange juice and I get to make all my own life altering decisions and not worry about it ruining the life of my significant other. I get my big, fluffy marshmallow-esque bed all to myself. I get to cater to my own tastes all the time and I don't ever have to pretend to be pleasant when I don't feel like it. Living in Reno, so far has proven that all I have to do to be thankful for being single is walk around and shop. Heh.

Sunday 02.03.2003 5:36 PM

I wish someone would come over and help me unpack. I don't even really need help, I just need someone to sit there and talk to me while I do it. The West is so different from the South. Lots of little differences. Everyone is SO nice I can't believe it. Opening doors for strangers and saying hello to people. I haven't seen a general public this nice since I was in London. And I know I've already mentioned the hot boys, but christ... it seems to never end.

I took a swim in my giant tub today. Good thing I know how to tread water or I would've drown. That thing is huge. I love my apartment, its just lovely. Reno is very different from I imagined. It has all kinds of stuff, and I dont think I'll have too much of a problem finding thing things I need. ie good salons, a MAC counter, cool computer stuff and fetishistic office supplies. I just need to figure out what the best places are, and if there are things hiding from me.

I have to work on monday. I haven't said that in 9 months. Not making my own schedule will be a change, but I'm completely drooling over the impending geekness I'll get to enjoy. Mmmmmmmm much networky fun.

I reserved the room for C9 last night, and have confirmation from Heather, Butch and Andrew. I need to get my ticket still and look into airfare. I'm so very excited. I think its going to be super awesome. And in my native state even!
